I can't get Word (5.0a) to do a decent job with text oriented at 90 degrees (for example, the y-axis label of a graph). I have a Personal LaserWriter LS, which is a 300 dpi, non-postscript printer. My understanding is that the computer basically sends a bitmap of the page to be printed, so the printer is too stupid to be at fault here. What happens is this: Rotated text gets printed at 72 dpi. It happens with Pasted PICT objects, as well as ones made with Word's own PICT editor. Not a disaster, I know, but it looks sloppy, and it seems like it doesn't have to be this way. Claris CAD can print rotated text at 300 dpi. Word can even print 300 dpi bitmaps o.k. Has anyone discovered an antidote for this? Is the problem solved in Word 5.1? --steve spielman spielman@ux5.lbl.gov
