Hi,

I recently tried to use the HD-emergency disk that came with
Norton Util-s II...don't worry...only to optimize the used space
on my HD (Lc 4/80) The disk itself only contains a system file together
with Speed Disk and some other Norton stuff. But apparently, i couldn't
boot my machine from this disk. Got the starting chime and the desktop with
a blank dialog window on top...nothing more...that must be system
crash/failure, i figured...uncommon to System 7.0.x of course...
Nothing was wrong with the system file on the disk, after i copied i to my
system folder, i didn't encounter any problems whatsoever trying to boot from
my hard disk. It did, right from the beginning, wonder why only a
system file was present on the disk and no finder. The Norton applications
with type (changed to) ZMAC or something - should look up the exact key -
can they replace the finder in this case, or not ? I did succeed in optimizing
the hard disk using a minimal 'system folder' - i cut most of the unneccesary
resourcers - together with Speed Disk on the same floppy...
But still, why did the orginal set up not work at all - HERE and NOW !?

thanks in advance,

Frank ( proesmsf@esat.kuleuven.ac.be)
