Take a good look at Resolve, from Claris. I switched to it from Excel and the days of frequent crashes ended forever. Not only that, it is far more pleasing visually, it has a more coherent set of tools, and an incredibly powerful scripting language (the Wingz engine). Resolve's scripting capability is much better than most other spreadsheet macro languages. It's very similar to HyperTalk in design, and easy to use and easy to read.
