The "offical" place to get NewsWatcher is ftp.acns.nwu.edu in
/pub/newsatcher.  John Norstad has been doing most of the work on the
program and I think he has some documentation there.

No.  An article is either read or unread.  Once read, NewsWatcher doesn't
show it to you again.  

But the documents it saves contain text-only, and you can edit them to make
an article unread if you know its article number.

The latest NewsWatcher has an option to show authors as well as subjects
and that could theoretically be extended to show any header field.  But
each header has to be fetched from the server separately (because of the
way the NNTP protocol is defined) and so it will slow down opening a group.
