I just went through this.  The answer turned out to be with the
Asante box.  It seems our distributor sent us boxes with a slightly
older ROM revision.  This caused problems with the PowerBooks.
The EN/SC worked fine with everything else we tried it on.  The
solution was to contact Asante for an RMA.  They've fixed the
problem on the current ROM.
