My version of SendPS seems to look for whatever laser is chosen in the
chooser, and will dig through a big appletalk network to find it.  
I don't know what version it is.

Apple released a small utility with the System7 disks called LaserWriter
Font Utility, and allows the user to send a postscript file to a laser
(chooser decided), as well as other handy tasks (downloading fonts).
If your system disks do not have it, ask your dealer and he/she should
make it readily available since it is still in the domain of free system
software.
