I found a strange incompatibility between Adobe Type Manager (ATM) version 3.0 and Suitcase version 2.1.2 and I wonder if it is a known problem. I installed the two on a PowerBook 160 on top of a clean out of the box installation of System 7.1 using the customized software installation for the PowerBook 160. The PB would stop during the startup process after loading ATM and would display a blank screen (no messages, no errors, no crashes). When I tried to load each of the two, either ATM or Suitcase, the startup process finished and all was well. This happened even when Suitcase wasn't opening any suitcases. Finally I changed the loading order having ATM load before Suitcase and they both worked together.
