The first problem that I encountered is that the modem, a SwannSmart V.90, was not listed on the (rather sparse) list of modems that the Macs control panel/modems offers. After spending much time googling, I discovered that I needed a program called FreePPP. This prog however is unable to detect the modem, and I suspect that is because it's not correctly identified in control panel/modems; although I have tried just about every one there is. And the problem is not something as simple as the port not being correctly set. From what else I've been able to learn, an appropriate modem script would solve the problem, but at this point I'm tiring of the exercise. The manufactures website offers a driver, but as i understand it it's for systems later than the 8.1. that I have. http://www.swann.com.au/s-techsupportdownl1.php#msurfer However, I did try it, but it didn't seem to do anything. ?? When I unstuffed it, I just got the dotted 'flying boxes' from the window, and that was it! Nothing seemed to happen. There weren't any folders created, or any programs running. Any suggestions? >Bill > > > -- rgds, Pete ----- http://pedro.spyw.com ~ all outgoing email virus scanned ~ The time here is- http://tinyurl.com/6sfgd 'Deja moo: The feeling that you've heard this bull before'
