How can I dl files onto the PC and get them to the Mac > as Mac files? (This is what happened with this one). As I said earlier: right-click to DL Mac files to a PC. What this does, is forces your browser to ask where you want to save the file, and also preserves it as a raw file, if you don't Windows will try to be 'helpful' and insert DOS carriage returns into what it thinks is some kind of unknown text file, effectively wrecking it. Then copy it onto some kind of medium, floppy, zip etc and take to Mac. The Mac will still see it as some kind of DOS file and may even truncate the file name. Don't worry about this, just drag it onto Stuffit Expander's icon and it will do the rest. Hopefully you have Stuffit Expander installed on that Mac... The file filename you DL'd is "newertools.sea.hqx" The .hqx part means the file has been 'bin-hexed' it's a Mac archive format for moving files across the net. The .sea part means that it also contains a 'self extracting archive' think of it as an executable zip file (though it is most likely Stuffit compressed). Stuffit Expander will decode the whole file in one go and you'll find that you then have "newertools.sea.hqx" + "newertools.sea" + a folder named "Gauges" which contain the actual utilities. If you find yourself moving lots of Mac files DL'd from the net via a PC, then you might want to take a look at freeware HFVExplorer for Win32 <http://gamma.nic.fi/~lpesonen/HFVExplorer/> This will format Mac floppies on a PC and also create CD sized Mac drive containers (disk images) which it can mount on your PC enabling you to drag and drop from PC to Mac container at your leasure. Once filled you can burn to CD then mount the container on the Mac via "Disk Copy 6.x" as a disk image. Has a small learning curve to get to grips with, but worth it if you DL a lot of Mac files via a PC. -- dee
