Sorry, I missed the beginning of this thread.  I will therefore answer the
following question:
"How do I capture the print output of a Mac MS Word 4.0 document in a file?"
Assuming you
a) need the PostScript file for some purpose:
b) are running with System 7.0 or above, or are using the printer drivers
   from that system.

Then do the following:
1) Select a LaserWriter as output device via the "Chooser".
2) Set up the page with "Page Setup..." under the "File" menu
3) Select the "Print..." item under the "File" menu
4) When the Print dialog box is shown, find the radio buttons marked
   "Destination:   @ Printer   O Postscrptt(R) File", and click on the
   "File" button.  This will change the button marked "Print" to "Save".
   Once all other desired options in this dialog box have been selected you
   can click on the button marked "Save". Another dialog box will appear and
   prompt you for the name of the file you want to save the Postscript in.
5) Type in the name of the Postscript file you wish to save the output as.
   Click on the "Save" button.  The computer will then print the file
   to disk.
6) Drag the resultant PostScript file wherever you like.  Edit the PostScript
   file is necessary with a word processor.
7) Send the file to the printer with LaserWriter Utility v7.1 to send the
   file to a PostScript Printer.
