Just a hint to some other small tools that can be valuable along with
AliasMenu or as replacements.

Volumes Menu 1.0 (freeware) - "browse and eject media in your menu bar"
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21111
VolumesMenu gives you full hierachically access to any volume -
harddisk, CD, DVD, zip, jaz or whatever is mounted on your desktop.
Though it's rather old now, I still think it'll work on IntelMacs too.
It works fast on OS X 10.4.10 on my Dual G4s up to Dual 1,8ghz.

TigerLaunch 1.0.3 (freeware) - "App launcher used from the menu bar"
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/16689
TigerLaunch is one of the most valuable tools I ever have used. You cna
configure it to show only those apps that you use for quick access.
Works fast and fine on 10.4.10, and I know that also IntelMac users
benefit from this tool.

A note on aliasMenu... I usedto use it on Os 8.x, 9.x and X 10.3, but I
find that it is slow and it gets even slower, if you have lots of menus
and folders with hundreds of aliases. Have as few menu icons as
possible. the fewer icons/menu itens the better. With few icons you can
have even more folders inside without slowing AM down...

Useful tips and tricks ought sometiems to be crossposted to more Mac
groups, since they can be very valuable. - A tip can come from a person
in fx. Denmark, but can also be valuable to users in fx. the US ,
Australia or even on the Fiji Islands.:-)
