Yes they can.  I have a version 6 to 5.x converter which I downloaded a
few months ago from the Microsoft site.  It works beautifully, and I now
have no problems with opening Word6 files from either Mac or PC.  The
mystery is, where is it gone?  I looked at the Microsoft "Free Stuff"
download site and it's nowhere to be seen.  There are tons of other
converters, but not this one.

Not me.  I am a bit concerned at the almost total lack of mention of
Macs on their website though.  I thought they were supposed to be pals
again, sort of.

I can send you a copy of this converter if you can't find it anywhere.
It really makes life a great deal easier, because most PC people seem to
have gone over to 6.
