Your system disks should have a control panel file called "Cache '040" or
something like that.  Put that in your system folder (in the control panel
folder) and double click on it.  There, it will give you the option to turn
it ON or OFF.  It you want to run Norton Utilities, turn it OFF.  When you
make a change you must reboot your Mac for the change to take place.  After
you turn the cache off and reboot, you should be able to run Norton.

If you plan of running software that is NOT compatable with the '040 cache
being turned ON, then I recommend getting (I believe it's shareware) 
"Autocache".  This lets you turn the cache on/off ON THE FLY without having
to reboot constantly.  Just leave Apple's '040 Cache on ON and then just use
Autocache to switch your cache settings.
There is also another control panel device called "Animals".  It is $50 from
Impulse Technologies.  It AUTOMATICALLY switches cache modes for you.  You
don't have to do anything.
