My wife has been using Microsoft Word version 4 to write screenplays. As far as I can tell, this is the software most commonly used by screenplay writers. I was wondering if anyone had found any other word processor, say Nisus, suitable for writing screenplays. I already owned WriteNow and upgraded to the latest version, hoping to get my wife to switch to it. Unfortunately, WriteNow does not support an all-caps character style. Also, I couldn't figure out how to define a paragraph style that includes adding space before and after the paragraph. Some of you may wonder why an all-caps style is needed. That was my initial reaction. I told my wife that her screenplays would look a lot nicer if she used bold face and italics instead of all caps. Unfortunately, the industry still demands the old-fashioned format. She even switched her font from Times or Palatino to Courier to make it look like it came out of a typerwriter. One reason for this is that people estimate the running time of the film by the number of pages in the screenplay. The nicer fonts compress everything substantially, causing people to underestimate the length. Deane Yang
