The embedding preference file in the extension folder in the system
folder can get mucked up. This causes MS WD 5 to crash at very 
random times. Simply trash this file and re-launch
word (which will then create a new version) and you'll be right.
I've just spent 2 days replacing system/finders/inits/etc/etc to
work this one out.
Note all your previous prefs will be lost.
