Are you using System 7?  If so, get DarkSide of the Mac, an application
based screen saver from Tom Dowdy. Latest version is 3.2.

If you are running System 6, you should be able to use Darkside of the
Mac 2.5.

In either case, if you stay away from the more processor intensive
modules, there should be no problems with any other application.  I have
actually seens file transfers move FASTER with DarkSide kicked in while
running ZTerm 0.9.
