Leonard, this is incorrect as far as AutoDoubler is concerned. AD 1.0.x and 2.0 can decompress documents directly into memory. In AD 1.0.x this was done on documents NOT explicitly opened for a read/write permission. In version 2.0, most documents are decompressed directly into memory WITHOUT explicit expansion on disk regardless of the permission used to open the document. This can be a tremendous time saver depending on how much data is initially read by the program in question before returning control to the user. Also, I know you have been asking privately about self-modifying applications compressed with AD 2.0. By default, AD 2.0 will let any compressed application modify itself without the problems which occurred with version 1.0.x, where AD forced applications to be opened in a read-only state (which was perfectly valid, by the way). This is done WITHOUT expanding the application on disk and I'm not referring to the AD Internal Compressor here. AD 2.0 has a small list of applications which we DO open read-only because doing so is a little faster and, to the best of our knowledge, these few application do not modify themselves (we use them everyday, that's why they're on the list). What we're talking about here are the internal workings or our respective programs and in all honestly I think we are the most qualified to discuss how AD works internally, NOT Aladdin. I make no presumptions (publicly) about how SpaceSaver does its thing, although I'm fairly certain both from our experimentation and from talking to you. I would appreciate it if you commented only on what is public knowledge about our product when discussing it without making assumptions about it's internal methodology. Thank you.
