The summary of methods for this recently posted did not include what I thought
would be the obvious solution. It seems to me that a small PostScript prolog
to your table could be written to solve the problem; the ".para" environment
includes variables for things like the current margin settings, the width of
the table, and the current indent. Knowing the page width, and possibly other
things (e.g., the number of columns on the page), I'd bet a number of
PostScript hackers out there could come up with a usable piece of postscript;
it could be kept in a glossary entry, to be pasted before any table that might
give problems. Anyone care to give it a try?
