Stripping out HTML

Hi all

A friend has a bunch of html files that she needs to strip all the code
out of, to leave plain text. Is there an OS X program that does this?

Yep. Just fire up any browser, open each file and save as text. Couldn't
be simpler. Alternatively, open the html files in Word X and save as a
word documents. You could also create a macro to process all the files
and automate the procedure.

Hope this helps, cheerz,

Another suggestion, which can be very handy in certain situations
where you literally want to strip the tags out leaving the text as it
was in the source file:

% cat myHTMLfile.html | perl -pe 's/<.+?>//g'

Thanks - pretty obvious, really. But she has 2000 files :) I have
convinced her to buy a copy of BBEdit (she'll find other uses for it) -
turns out it has a strip-tags command which works well. I think I can
script BBEdit to do this in a kind of batch mode.

Pip pip.

TextSOAP is shareware and does all that and more. You can batch process
all the files in a folder at once and it's blindingly quick. I just got
a copy from Tucows.

So it is... I found it just after posting my previous message.

there is also a free java-based editor that has this batch-replace
capability: Jedit.

Also, the latest "lite" version of BBEdit (free, OS9, OSX) does it too:
