Capturing streaming audio?

How can I -- or *can* I -- capture streaming audio, viz. a short NPR
audio newsclip that comes in as a Windows Media Player file?

(The link initially offered me a choice of Real Player or WMP formats; I
chose the latter since then it seems to default to WMP without asking.)

Mac OS 10.3.9, Netscape 7.0.2, WMP 9.0.0, DSL connection.

Is there a way to do this?

(And just for the record, I'm not interested in capturing music or
lengthy files off the Internet; I'd just like to be able to replay a few
clips like this for others after I've gone offline.)

A great variety. Most basic/free might be Audio Recorder. Sweet and free is
Audacity. Sweet and shareware are Amadeus II and Audio Hijack.

Audacity is really good, but kinda complex...

A clean, simple and free/free tool is the videolan player:

Assuming you're able to play it in the first place, AudioHijack can
record it (and the basic version is free):

Apologies, think it used to be but seems only the demo version is free now.

Wire Tap Pro from Ambrosia will do it, as well.

Take a peek at VLC (www.videolan.org) and/or Radio Recorder (you'll have
to Google it - I'm headed for bed). Dunno if they'll handle WMP, but
they're worth looking at.

NPR gives you a choice of either Real Player or WMP. Once you make your
choice, it remembers. I use Real Player and it's never once failed me.
Just yesterday I listened to the entire "This American Life" on
streaming audio over a dial-up connection with nary a single
interruption or snag.

AudioHijack, from Rogue Amoeba, is my favorite.
