mac email programs

Well, I am having many irritations settling on an email program.

I use mail.app for three miscellaneous email accounts, registrations
and business stuff.
I wanted to have my main personal account in a separate program.
Eudora6 is strange tho. It doesn't support the system address book
and calling up names from history puts '-' instead of '@' in the
address. Hm, it seems to translate itself into '@' when sending.
Irritating.

I tried powermail but it has no spam filtering, which mail and Eudora
have. It seems to be necessary all of a sudden. I get a dozen junk
mails a day now. Used to get none on my personal account.

I prefer the mail.app interface so I put my personal account on there
along with my business accounts but it refuses to send thru an
smtp password authentication scheme.

On os/2 and windoze I used PMMail, which had actual separate mailboxes
in the interface. I prefer that but it seems not to exist in macos
mail programs. Spam has probably rendered that program useless now tho.

So, I am not happy with the choices available for email in macos.

I guess I'm just complaining, really. Eudora is the only program which
will send thru the login smtp I have to use (I am at a cyber cafe
in haiti) so I'm stuck with it.

Why can't I get mail.app to send thru my mail{dot}lyalls{dot}net? bizarre.

Are you quite sure that Mail.app doesn't do authentication? I use it
when I take my Powerbook to my office and check this address without
trouble. Of course, for my "real" email I use Eudora 5.2.1 (6 is in
beta and I haven't tried it out yet).

But for the dash-vs-@ thing, that's only for the "nickname" that
automatically gets stored in the history. If you drag those history
entries into your regular Eudora address book, you can call them
whatever you want and not use a variation of the address. Of course it
would be good if Eudora could interact with the Address Book app.
