Drawing thin lines in MacDraw II 1.1

I think the 1-point line in MD II (and other drawing apps) is far too thick, esp for slanting lines. As I know we can draw very thin line in Postscript (1-point in PS), I just wonder whether we can draw such lines in MD II or not. I tried 0-point, and it's REALLY zero ie NOTHING !! Also, about the arrows... The arrow heads are often not centered properly in the final print out. It's hard to tell from the screen even with magnifying picture. Anyone faces the same trouble? Any suggestions to work around that? Thank you. _____________________________________________________________________________ | Kevin WONG | ACSnet : kklw@mullian.ee.mu.OZ | | Department of Elec Engineering | internet : kklw@mullian.ee.mu.OZ.AU | | University of Melbourne | uunet : uunet!munnari!mullian!kklw |

You can use decimal fractions -- I've gotten pretty good lines on the laserwriter using "0.5" point as the line width. noah ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ noah@apple.com (not the opinions of) Apple Computer, Inc.

I use 0.5 point or 0.25 point as line widths.

Do you have version 1.1 ? I believe something was fixed on the arrowheads
for that version. Check the alignment at 400%.

Minor correction: 1 point is the same size in PsotScript as on the Mac screen. If you mean 1 pixel, this isn't a standard number as PostScript is resolution independent. If you ask for a line too thin for a given printer, you are given the thinnest possible line instead. This can have unfortunate consequences - I once had a drawing which looked fine when printed on a laser printer, but almost disappeared on a Linotronic at over 2000 dots per inch, because the lines were too thin. One irritating thing about MacDraw II 1.0 is that once you change the arrowheads given to you at startup, it is apparently impossible to get them back to the original format. You can play with them all day, but the original shape cannot be recreated. Sheesh.

Create a template document with all the arrowheads you like (inc. the default) then just make a copy when you want a particular one. Many features of MDII are really wonderful, but its arrowhead implementation is one of its weak points. If you have a line with existing arrows, and you want to change them you need to change to a line with no arrows, edit the arrow, then put the arrows back. Intuitive? And another thing .. How come I can put arrows on the ends of a curved segment in good old MacDraft but not in the latest release from Claris? (but MacDraft's arrows are really ugly - you just can't win.. ) George Jefferson jeffe@eniac.seas.upenn.edu george@sol1.lrsm.upenn.edu

Actually, why can't MDII have a few arrowhead settings within one stationery like the dashed line? I found the change of the shape of an existing arrowhead irritating as well. _____________________________________________________________________________ | Kevin WONG | ACSnet : kklw@mullian.ee.mu.OZ | | Department of Elec Engineering | internet : kklw@mullian.ee.mu.OZ.AU | | University of Melbourne | uunet : uunet!munnari!mullian!kklw |
