I would like to request some help from the readers of this newsgroup.

We are going to do a project in which we need a database that runs on a
Mac(specifically, Mac IIcx, 8/105, color). I am quite familiar with the Mac
but know almost nothing about database offerings on Mac and am
soliciting you help in identifying a suitable package.

As far as databases go, I also have quite a bit of experience there, having
been a DBA and data administrator for a multi-gigabyte IBM mainframe DBMS.
Additionally, managed implementation of a CASE tool fitted over a UN*X
relational database (client-server).

What am I looking for? A database with a good graphical interface and a
C/C++ programmatic interface. We plan to use it to enter information and
then run a set of programs over the database to determine if the information
is consistent and complete. The database will not be very large but we
need to have good data entry capability. To be more specific:

MUST

relational with SQL or SQL like data definition and manipulation language
with the capability to do selects and joins of tables

  graphical user interface

  report writer

  C/C++ programmatic interface

  scripting capability

ability to do complex data validation on entry of data (i.e. database or
user interface "trigger" that does that data validation)

  handle 40 tables

handle approximately 10 meg database (small)

largest table will have approx 500-700 rows

NO COPY PROTECTION (never seen one that wasn't a pain. We will buy all
    copies we use)

DESIRED (but not required)

  hypercard interface

single package (i.e. all features in one vendors package)

  portable to UN*X platforms

  multi-user

  cost < $500 per user

Please send any recommendations to me at

  nettles@software.org

If the replies merit, I will summarize and post.

Thanks,

David Nettles
