I was told at the Fox booth at DB Expo that FoxPro for the
Mac will support DAL, whenever it is released. (It's been
expected for a long time.) However, I saw a DAL server
called Butler from Everyware (416/819-1173), which purports
to act as a DAL server for any Mac software. They didn't
have a FoxBase demo running but claimed that the product
would work with FoxBase. Their literature, however, lists
Excel, HyperCard, 4th Dimension and other programs but not
FoxBase.

I'm still pursuing this issue, but my emphasis has been on
the other end, how to get DAL to access an Ingres database
running on a VAX running Ultrix. My understanding is that Pacer
will eventually supply such a server. Apple tells me that
Ingres can also create one if they wish (Ingres told me they
are). Also, there are apparently non-DAL servers, such as
GQL, which may fill the gap.
