Sure, I do it every day, although not with a UNIX server. It works just the same with any SQL*Net host. Maybe I should step back. ORACLE's SQL*Net allows you to access any netwroked ORACLE server, be it on AppleTalk, TCP/IP, DecNet, TokenRing, or what have you. It's fairly transparent to what the host actually is. One thing ORACLE will not tell you is that you can put ORACLE server for Mac 1.1 on a Quadra 950 and get almost as good response as with an RS/6000 or HP 9000. They won't tell you that (unless you ask) because they only charge about $5,000 for thge Mac server, whlie they charge upwards of $20,000 for any UNIX-based server. They may clue in, so buy it now. Seriously, I use Macs as servers, and they're real speedy. You can use AppleTalk, so you don't have to worry about configuring TCP/IP on clients. If you want UNIX, eventually ORACLE will have an A/UX 3.0-compatible server. Niel |-------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Niel M.
