I am in the process of investigating software which can link address
information in a database with physical location on a map. I would like
to use it to, given a list of addresses, show the locations of these
addresses on a map, and for each address, be able to determine the closest
location to it amongst a group of locations distributed throuout the map.
(For instance, given an address I would like to find the closest
restaurant to this address among a group of restaurants.)
I read the recent Byte article about mapping software (January 1992), and
noticed GeoQuery 3.0. Anyone used it? What types of things have you used
it for? Is it fully programmable, along the lines of a high-level language
database (e.g. FoxBase, Omnis 7).
Any system that I would put into use would have to have data available on
Vancouver, B.C., Canada, the surrounding metropolitan area and it would
be good to have data for the whole of southern B.C. and Vancouver Island
as well. Is there ANY mapping program for the Mac (or even, yuck, DOS)
that can be configured with detailed data from these areas?
Thanks if you can help me out.
