Hello, y'all.
I'm working on a guestbook database exhibit for the Macintosh. I want to use
HyperCard or MacroMedia Director as a front end, with a database engine
running in the background (invisible to the visitor.) The database would be a
simple flat-file system with simple text-matching searches, but I need to be
able to store up to a million records in it (name, city, state, country, date,
and possibly a picture of the visitor.)
I'd like to find an existing database product that could do this, but all the
Mac databases I've investigated are built to be used directly by the user,
rather than from a graphical front-end. I'd be willing to write my own XCMDs
or XObjects, but am not psyched (having no database programming experience.)
Does anyone know of...
1) a Macintosh database that can be run in the background and controlled
using HyperCard XCMDs, Director XObjects or Apple Events...
2) a Macintosh-based database library (source code or linkable object
files) that I could use to build my own system, or...
3) public domain source code for a simple flat-file database system that
can deal with a serious amount of data (Mac would be preferred, but
anything would be appreciated.)
This is being posted by a friend; please respond either here (he'll send it on
to me) or directly to me at dtg@tcm.org
Many thanks,
Daniel Griscom
