Exporting from Filemaker

I use Filemaker Pro to store the names, addresses, and reviewer
information for an academic Journal. Recently I ran into a problem
of trying to export any of the information into a text file. Filemaker
only allows me to select comma delimited text. If you click on the
menu box to choose a different type, nothing happens. I consulted
the manual, but I could not find any particular reason why this
would happen or how to fix it. Does anyone else have any ideas?

There is no explanation in the manual because it is a bug. There seems to
be some interference between an extension and FileMaker that I've never
been able to track down.

You can get the pop-up menu to work, if you click on it immediately after
the dialog box opens. As soon as you select the Export item from the File
menu, move the pointer to the approximate position where the menu will
appear when the dialog opens and click the mouse button as soon as it does.
You need to click on it within a second after it appears for it to work.

Since the problem seems to be a conflict between an extension and FileMaker
you could try finding the problematic extension and removing it. Also,
make sure you have the latest version of FileMaker (2.0v2, I think.)

Only one idea. Do you have the appropriate XTND translators in a place
where Filemaker Pro can find them? (ie: in a "Translators" folder within a
"Claris" folder within the System Folder)

I've run into this on a few of my machines. If you click on this pop up
IMMEDIATELY after the dialog box opens, you should be able to get the other
options. As a permanent fix, upgrade to 1.0v1 or 1.0v2 and grab a known
good claris folder from another machine. It should then behave properly.

Or the current version, 1.0v3...

Don't you just LOVE progress?

-Geoff, waiting for my 2.0 upgrade...
