A user of mine is using a program on a System 6.0.8 Mac that I wrote on a System 7 Mac. He's getting the message "Not enough memory to open a screen of that size" when opening certain query screens. I don't get the message on my Mac (with System 7). Does anyone have an idea of what parameter I might change to deal with this problem? Please send ideas to me directly (& to news if you want). Thanks for your consideration. Jeff Luck CES Systems Office Penn State University JFL4@PSUVM.PSU.EDU

It has nothing to do with System 7. The amount of memory needed is related to the sizes of the open windows (presumably unchanged) and also the number of colors. If his machine is using 24-bit color, say, he might try switching to 8-bit color, or increasing the partition size for FoxBASE+/Mac (assuming he's using MultiFinder), or adding more memory. -- Dave Seaman ags@seaman.cc.purdue.edu

I was getting this problem with an application I was developing.
I traced it down to the any screen commands I performed. Apparently,
when I moved from an SE (mono) to my IIsi (8 bit color), it assumed
(even forced) every window was 8 bit color. This requires a bit
more memory. I called Fox Technical Support - they claimed it was
a problem with the operating system. Gee, all my other application
can open mono window and not cry for 3-4 Megs of memory. Try the
following commands, they may help.
SET COLOR TO
This sets the screen to the <default> B/W.
SET INTENSITY OFF
This turns off the enhanced screen attributes.
Good Luck.

Had the same problem with applications done on my Quadra when put on a LocalTalk network of a IIci, and 2 LC IIs. If I recall correctly, we just changed the memory allocation in the Get Info Box and the problem went away. 1s
