I know FileMaker is much lighter software compared to 4D or DBase, but
anyway I have some layouts / dbases that I would like to distribute,
but for the possible buyers the price of FileMaker or any other
commercial program is too high - a runtime version without layout
editing would make life easier for them.

Totally right. A runtime version of FileMaker Pro with no layout ability,
etc would be an interesting product. One person develops the DB and
everyone else just uses it.

Ideal for bundle/site license type deal.

Oh well...

Way back at the original (West Australian) FM Pro release I raised the
runtime issue with the Claris guy.

He replied that it had been the subject of bitter "religious wars" wihtin
Claris and was a closely-lost decision.

Looks like nothing much has changed in the last 2 years...

This is too bad, a runtime would be VERY beneficial to me and quite a
few other users to be sure.

Even better though would be a server that would actually tax the computer
it is running on. Ever notice how you can be sharing a database,
have 10 to 20 people accessing it, and you are just flying. It would
be very nice to have a server that would use the machine it was on
to the fullest.

Of course, making it a client-server program would tightly inflict on
the Ma & Pa database of the latest movies, maybe its time for

                           Filemaker Industrial v1.0v1

heh.. I wish..
