4D Reports

Oh Boy! I've got another problem. I imported that data from FM Pro.
I've checked to make sure that the right fields are recieving the correct
data. After all my careful work, I believe that I have all the data that
I want in the 4d database.
BUT, when I generate a report with all the data, IT IS MISSING the data
from many of the fields!!!! I look at the tables and they are
there but when I generate a report to the screen or print it out, the data
is missing [randomly...not set pattern].

What's going on here? Is this an incompatiblity of 2.0.1 with system 7?
Or is it that this version of 4d is buggy?
I can't give this system to my client.
It's no good if she gets some of the data that she wants some of the
time. Help????

David -

[You're going to hate me!] Look at your code first -- if there is a
problem, it's usually with the code,*especially* when trying to write
a report (because it's so confusing).

One technique that I use is to import into a file that is reserved for
imports -- all the fields are strings of 80 (unless you've got strings
that are larger, then I throw in a text field or two). From there, I
am able to format data (strip characters, convert to upper/lower case, etc.)

THEN I put the data into its appropriate field. Call me paranoid, but
it works well, and I make sure that the data gets in the right place.

Can you okease be more specific? How are you looking at the tables to
verify that the data exist? How are you generating the reports (s) that
are not functioning properly? How familiar are you with 4d, and what have
you tried to do to remedy this?

Are the missing data in the detail area of the layout? Are you generating
a report with break processing activated? Are you having trouble with a
subfile?

I've had horrible experiences with 4d when importing data... Most related
to 4d not importing fields containing null strings properly.

More specific information would really help us help you. Examples of the
relevant code and description of the relevant structure and layout(s) might
be a good start, as well as how you imported the data, and how you exported
it from FM.
