After reading this newsgroup for some time, I now have cause to make a post. Problem: My IIsi will no longer start up; it only gives me a 4 tone tune. I assume this is some warning that the startup process has found a problem. The computer gives the usual ping when starting, spins up the hard drive and makes the clicking noises as it starts to run files, then the tune. The monitor does not light up so I don't even see a sad mac icon. Lead-up: The IIsi (running 7.1) was linked via modem (2400bps) to my uni's VAX (using MicroPhone II v4) and in the process of displaying a file. The software bombed and displayed an error box, but before I could read it, it started jumping the message up/down in the box. Fine, although I've never seen this before, I interrupted (control-esc), which quit the program. Finder stayed up for about a second then froze. I reset (control-option-esc) and got the tune. The modem was still on at this time because the line does not fall out immediately and I can usually just restart and reattach my terminal session. The IIsi has failed to start ever since. I have tried deattaching the printer, external drives, modem, keyboard, monitor; booting from internal, external hard drives and disk tools disk. The monitor only lights up when using the reset. Help: Any ideas? I know it will need to go in for repair, I would just like to know what for before the techs start babbling jargon at me. One more month and it would have been traded/sold for a PM7500! Thanks ---- Neil Bodell n.bodell@qut.edu.au
