Megahertz CruiseCard 28.8 and Slow SLIP Throughput

I've been trying to get decent throughput on a 28.8 CRUIseCARD while using
the video conferenceing software CUSEEME. My other connections seem to be
ok. TELNET seems to be fine as does NETSCAPE, but CUSEEME is a real dog
over the modem. All this stuff works really well over APPLETALK at the
office. It really shows down the system. Can't even switch windows for a
minute at a time. When I quit it all returns to normal. I'm inclined to
think it might be the software, but others have mentioned poor throughput
problems. Moreover, people use CUSEEME over 28.8 connections all the
time with good results. I'm wondering if this is a mac powerbook PC CARD
thing. Does anyobody have the cruisecard 28.8 working well with CUSEEME
on a powerbook 5300cs ? If so, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I don't use CUSeeMe, but I posted a couple of days ago that I can't get
MacSLIP to connect with "115200" setting-- I get a "could not attatch
transport" something-or-other error. It only dials when set at 57600
(should have bought the 14.4, I guess) No one's responded. Is anyone
getting better results? BTW, what SLIP program are you using?

Then your SLIP was not configured properly. There is no measurable
difference between SLIP and PPP, all other things being equal.

Dave,
They may be right. Your SLIP may not have been configured correctly. But I
had the same problem. I fiddled with my SLIP for a _long_ time and it never
worked well. When I got to 28.8 slip really bogged my system down. MacPPP,
however, worked great the first time. My PPP performance is easily twice
that of slip. Plus, there is no performance penalty whatsoever.

Perhaps we both had slip configured wrong. I don't know about you, but I'm
not going back to slip to try and get it worked out. My Mac runs great now
that I'm using PPP.
