Thinking of getting an Apple 1705 17 inch multi-scan moniter. I beleive it is a shadow mask type. Does anyone have any opinions on this one? If you own one, what would you give it out of ten? TIA, Simon. -- Simon Phillips <phillips@enterprise.net> http://homepages.enterprise.net/phillips

I've seen complaints about it in the past, and from what I've seen, the 1710 is worth the extra money.

I have their 15 inch Trinitron. No complain here. Great price performance ratio. Isaac P. Yang PowerPC Mac Info Page http://www.w3billboard.com/ppcmac/

Don't buy a 1705, since for the same price you can get a really quality monitor from Sony or Viewsonic. These are the only company's whose monitors I have used extensively so I'm not able to comment on others. The 1710 is good if you need the color calibration, but you have to put up with a lot a junk like soft-switches. I've never had any problems with it so far, and its a huge improvement over the 13" Apple RGB Monitor I used to have (when I had an LC II). It looks great in millions of colors, thousands, 256, whatever. Chris M. morrison@dnai.com
