HELP - G4 Tower and Apple Pro Keyboard Problem

Hi,

I have just recently decided to change my old iMac style keyboard for the
new Apple Pro Keyboard. Ever since then when I go to shutdown the computer,
it appears to shutdown and then it restarts again.

I thought maybe I hit a key by accident but I have tried it several times.
My only options at the moment are to pull the mains plug out or go back to
the older style keyboard, which I don't want to do.

Anyone have any ideas?
Keep in mind this is a G4 Tower (PC Yikes) and not a cube.

If anyone knows why can they contact me via email (nahaz@idx.com.au) as soon
as possible.

Thanks for any help forthcoming......

Nigel Hunt

Are you sure its the keyboard ? On the AGP G4, the keyboard cannot even start
up the computer. Have you tested it with the old keyboard, & with no keyboard
at all ?
If it still does it, then its a motherboard fault.

cheers Andrew

Yeah the old keyboard works fine on the system and I doubt it would be a
motherboard fault if it works with the old keyboard.

I do have a Imation Super Disk Drive installed in the USB port of the
keyboard. I am just wondering if this could be it?

I will try and verify it tonight.

Hi,

From what I understand, USB peripherals, especially if they have an
additional power supply, can release some voltage over the USB-port on
powering down the computer. This residual charge is then interpreted by
the computer to be the power-on signal, and the machine does so
accordingly. This is covered in the FAQ section of the apple
TIL.(http://til.info.apple.com/)

Hope this helps

Hans

CORRECT!!!

It appears that the Imation SuperDisk is indeed doing this. When I
disconnect the USB cable the computer shuts down fine. With it installed it
restarts the computer. What a bummer!!!

I tried looking for it in the FAQ section but never found it. Obviously I
never read it as deeply as you did.

Thanks heaps..........
