This might be a very stupid question, but I have n\been unable to find
an answer to my question. 

Does anyone know of any MAC software that will monitor PPP and log what
is happening during the fire-up phase of a dial-up PPP session.

Great idea, Chris.  I have used FreePPP and MacPPP and neither seem to do 
that.  It would certainly help people debug their setup much more easily!
