If it were me, I would just screw it into one side of the bracket. or 
bend the bracket. Its only a bracket after all.
 Drives are not all exactly the same size, a range of a couple of mm  is 
not that unusual. The brackets are also not made with real precision 
tolerances either. It may just have gotten bent wider when the botton 
drive was put in. 3 or 4 mm should actually allow you to screw in the 
drive on both sides with a minimum of bending.
