He said the DOS SYSTEM didn't recognize when a floppy is inserted, not the person. If you want to eject a Mac floppy, select its icon on the desktop and choose "Eject Disk" from the menu bar; or if you want to unmount it; choose "Put Away." The only time you can't unmount a floppy is if an application has a file open on it, and thus is still in use. You can eject a floppy in use, but be prepared to put it back in when you try to save your work and the system needs to write to it. This works even on my ZIP disks and CD ROMs. Can't write to CD-ROMs of course. > the single reason that this is not the case in the PC world is the price > of the hardware. Presumably some of this is because > MACS are a smaller market but. still... > toodles, > Ian Are you referring to the floppy drives costing 2x as much? Or the floppies themselves? Since the floppy disks are the same, I'll assume you mean the drive mechanism. Is this really an issue since all machines, PCs and Macs, (excepting some homebrew PCs and Mac subnotebooks) come with the requisite floppy drives. David Findley davidf@spotty.umsl.edu
