I would say definitely -- and also mention more larger files. The files
that take up the Gaga drive space are the Sound, Images, and Motion type
programs. And with Mac's emphasis on multimedia, plus postcardware
high-class programs, plus (important!) very easy (well, realatively)
SLIP/PPP support, the files just pile in.

Bingo! No inexpensive backup = expensive backup, no backup, or floppy
backup. I personally copy my PowerBook drive directly to an equal-sized
APS drive. Not the cheapest available, but very reliable -- imagine all
the faster drive space I could free up by backing to removeable media.
Another factor I might mention: Windows Users have greater on-disk system
overhead; that is, disk access speed is important when they get additional
storage because additional storage often holds application stuff.
Additionally, it's just plain difficult to remove files that are installed
with the applications, so a lot of useless files reside in the same fast
disk space as the useful ones. Mac users, on the other hand, can pare
down less-used and unused files -- in addition to traditionally smaller
sized applications and significantly smaller system. So the need for
additional storage is not for applications that have to talk quickly with
the CPU, but for data files, which are often loaded into RAM in big
chunks. Thus, cheap slow disk space is as good as, or better than,
regular-priced fast disk space.
One thing that is often overlooked but tends to make merely excited Mac
people into converts: aesthetics. The Zip drive just looks right. Macs
have always been on the cutting edge of aesthetics, (heck, they brought
aesthetics to the desktop interface!) and something that just looked like
an external floppy would feel like a concession to the aesthetics of "the
cheapest box possible" that so many clone makers fall into.
