SCSI is SCSI isn't it? > > Thanks for any help... There have been a number of good replies to your question. All that I want to do is pass along my experience with purchasing a used Seagate 1 gig drive that had been used in an IBM 486. I figured as some of you have already pointed out that SCSI is SCSI. Since I had an external 240meg drive for one of my machines which was bootable, I disconnected my internal hard drive and then hooked up the gigabyte drive to the power and data connectors. Booting the Mac from the external drive, I used FWD hard drive formatting software for the necessary low level and regular formatting chores, and then just dropped the drive into a housing that I had purchased from APS. The drive has worked fine ever since it put it on line. So, for what its worth, one person's experience with taking a castoff drive from an IBM dealership at an extremely cheap price and making it work for my Mac. Hope that this helps....
