Many people have reported a annoying vibration in their 8500's front panel. I took my cover off and noticed that the sheet metal shielding along the front moved freely. I put some strips of double-sided tape on it, stuck on a piece of foam rubber (about 5"x5"x1") and replaced the cover. The noise went away and has not returned. It appears that the drives get hotter with the cover off than with it on. I, too, have had the drive sled vibration problem. Likewise I found that the solution mentioned -- a piece of "spongy" wedged between the center locking tongue and the subchassis" -- fixed it.
