The seeking noises were very loud too, but that didn't bother me nearly as much as the constant noises. The Barracuda I replaced it with is virtually silent in comparison. The Barracuda is an internal drive, whereas the Grand Prix was an external (in a pretty heavy all-metal zero-footprint case). I'd be willing to believe that the way the drive was mounted could affect the low-frequency noise, but I'd have trouble believing that that ear-piercing high-frequency noise could be stopped by anything less than about a foot of solid concrete :-) I had the Grand Prix on a shelf under my desk, completely surrounded by the biggest manuals and books I could find, and the noise was still very disturbing. -- Steve Kanefsky
