Aside from the spammed advertisment complaint, which I would generally agree with, is this one of the new MR-PRML drives, or just a clearout of the old before the new. As ever, I understand that hard drives are to get smaller, cheaper, quicker, and with higher capacities, but this new MR technology will provide a revolutionary rather than the normal revolutionary/evolutionary step. I did read in the UK press this week that Fujitsu announced new 1, 4.4, and 8.8 gig drives, and that only Fujitsu and IBM were up to date with the neccessary technology. This seems rather worrying given the previous slatings that Fujitsu drives have received in this group over the past year. Interestingly, the same article says that Quantum are going to ship MR-PRML drives in March 96, with 1.7 and 2.55 gig capacities for $265 and $395 respectively. Whets the appetite somewhat. So, is there any truth in the Fujitsu announcement, or is it just PR / scare-mongering? -- Neil Yeoman neil@neily.demon.co.uk
