Mac II video Card Upgrade Info and Query

After living for years with 16 greys/colours, I finally decided to upgrade
to 256 (thank you, Realmz). Yes, this is a real Mac II, no x or anything
else (well, I got the PMMU, and thermostatically controlled fan, but not
even the SuperDrive upgrade tho' I wouldn't mind), with the original Mac
II video card, which was always designed to be upgradeable. Apple
declined on providing the upgrade, so I was on my own.

I had no luck finding the necessary chips here in Oz (8 x 41264's, which
are 24 pin dual ported video RAM), but while visiting the US I saw an ad
for a chip company that promised they would have them. Well, it took two
tries (the first time they sent the wrong chips) and some external
support, but Memory Direct (+1-714-847-5532, Fax +1-714-842-9437) finally
got them to me. I popped them in and the card works fine.

In 16 greys/colours. Hmmph.

I think what's up is that I need to signal to the card that I've added the
chips. I presume that there's a connection or resistor I need to break,
or a connection needs to be made.

One suspicion: there's a double triangle of solder that looks like just
dragging a soldering pencil tip across it would create such a join...

Alternatively, can anyone state definitively just WHAT extra needs to be
done? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -- Clark

You do NOT need to tell the card - it automatically senses how much memory
it has. I did the same thing a year ago, and you must push the chips in
HARD. When I first did it, they went in only partially and thus they,
effectively, weren't there. Didn't I feel silly when I was shown that...

Go push them in further!
