Just to be safe, I just checked the Bug Doc. What do you know -- the TTabber
bug is listed, with the same fix as I proposed.
 
So because I do not routinely review the Bug Doc every single time my app does
something I didn't expect, I have just reinvented a wheel.
 
This also confirms that the Bug Doc (which turns out to be MUCH shorter than I
had recalled) does indeed contain bug fixes which are officially "suggested" by
Apple, but which Apple is not making.
