I would think that this would depend on how much future the Macintosh has.
IMHO, the Macintosh is nearing the end of it product life-cycle (remember
"Apple II Forever"?). I for one am looking forward to migrating ASAP to a
PowerPC running Pink. My impression is that the plan is to convert the entire
Macintosh line to PowerPC hardware within about two years. Maybe it will still
be called a "Macintosh" and can run existing Mac software through emulation
and/or native primary toolbox calls. But I assume it will also run Pink.
Given the choice of using the existing (and increasingly) kludgey toolbox calls
vs working with a truly OOP, truly multitasking, protected mode operating
system, which would you choose?
My point is that the name "Macintosh" may or may not relevant within the
near future.
