I'm not entirely sure if this will help or not but I would suggest you try
it and see. If you are looking for raw IP packets then pinging yourself
will not work. This is because Ping uses whats called UDP(User Datagram
Protocal). This is an alternative(useless except in special cases) to IP
and so they would not show up as IP packets. I hope this is the problem
because otherwise your going to have to fix that code :)
