PB/AV series disk drive incompatibility

I recently upgraded my PowerBook 540C to a PPC. Now my Quadra 840 AV can't read
disks that have been through it. The same disks can be read by other Macs and
the PB has no problems with AV-formatted disks. Turns out to be a known
hardwarebug with the AV series Macs. Anyone else found this?

I got the following from Apple tech support.

"Apple have replicated the same problem on their equipment.

"The drives in the 840 and 660 AV machines were known to be finnicky with floppy
disks and this seems to show them up again.

"We have formatted a disk in a PB5300 and it shows the same problems in
the Quadra.

"It appears to be a low level hardware bug that we cannot act on here. The issue
has been escalated to the US.

"Apple will advise what the US come up with.
Even though this doesn't solve the problem for now, hopefully something
will come of it.

"Regards, Myfanwy
