I can't compare Apples and HP's, but I can tell you that I've been completely satisfied with the 4/600 I bought more than 2 1/2 years ago. It has been used heavily and has never failed. > They thing that concerns me is the RAM. They come with 2mb and are > difficult/expensive to upgrade. Is 2mb enough for medium range DTP work? Memory used to be horribly expensive for the 4/600, but it's not so bad now. I think I paid more than $400 for the 4 MB upgrade years ago, but if you call around to the vendors listed on RAMwatch, I bet you'll get it for less than $100. Installation was a bit tricky, but only because I dropped one of the damn screws into the guts of the printer, and then touched the corona wire with a greasy finger while fishing for it. :-/ Not an easy job, but it doesn't require an expert. It's not as tough as assembling a kid's toy, or anything. -- K. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kevin L. Sterner | U. Penn.
