I hope someone can help me out.

The problem:
I think the print nozzle/sucking mechanism for the black is clogged.

When ALL 4 ink cartridges are FULL and I turn on the printer, it starts up
and does the automatic cleaning of the print head. Then, to my distress,
it does not detect the black ink! Yet it detects all the other ones (CYAN,
MAGENTA and YELLOW). So I get the black ink "empty" light flashing.

top view of printer lights, under the lid

   |--------------------------|
   | @ @ @ | where is the blinking light
   |--------------------------|

I think the print head is sucking in the CYAN, MAGENTA and YELLOW inks BUT
not the BLACK ink because when checking the base of the print head (where
the nozzles are) using a tissue, I find that there is CYAN, MAGENTA and
YELLOW inks, but no BLACK ink or very little.

I've tried methylated spirits on the nozzle and also where the ink is
sucked in, but nothing's changed. THE PRINT HEAD refuses to detect the
black ink (there's plenty in the cartridge). Help?!

I think the print head needs replacing BUT I can't find anyone that's
selling it!!!!
Have rung Canon who didn't return my call
Apple reseller who didn't return my call
Other place told me to ring Canon
Another place advised me to try methylated spirits (nice guy here)

Please.... help me.... I really need to print an assignment, i.e. CAT, and
it would look much better in colour. AND would mean I don't have to do any
colouring in. :-)
A very distressed,

Benjamin Lee

I think you'll find that metho is the wrong fluid to be using. Most inks
nowadays are water based.

Get onto Canon's Web site http://www.canon.com.au/ and search through
the support area's. I'm sure you'll find a FAQ or notes on cleaning and
trouble shooting. You could also try in the US. Just drop the .au from
above.BCS wrote:

Another example above of some MORON calling the kettle black!!!

What the hell does your response mean?

BTW, isopropyl alcohol is a common ink medium.
